What Is Jeevan Pramaan?

Jeevan Pramaan is a biometric-based Digital Life Certificate (DLC) service launched by the Government of India in 2014. It enables pensioners — whether from central government, state government, or other bodies — to submit their annual life certificate digitally using their Aadhaar number, without needing to physically visit a bank or pension disbursing office.

Before Jeevan Pramaan, pensioners had to present themselves in person every year to prove they were alive — a process that was difficult for elderly, disabled, or geographically isolated individuals. The digital system has made this far more accessible.

Why Is a Life Certificate Required?

Pension disbursing authorities require pensioners to submit a life certificate (also called an "existence certificate") once a year — typically in November — to confirm the pensioner is still alive and eligible to continue receiving their pension. Failure to submit can result in pension payments being temporarily suspended.

How Jeevan Pramaan Works

The system uses Aadhaar-based biometric authentication. Your fingerprint or iris scan is captured and matched against your Aadhaar record. Once verified, a Digital Life Certificate is generated and a unique Pramaan ID is issued. This ID is automatically shared with the relevant pension disbursing authority.

Ways to Submit Your Jeevan Pramaan

1. Via the Jeevan Pramaan App (Smartphone)

  1. Download the Jeevan Pramaan app from the Google Play Store or App Store.
  2. Connect a biometric device (fingerprint scanner) to your phone via OTG or use face authentication if supported.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, and pension-related details.
  4. Authenticate using fingerprint or face ID.
  5. Receive your Pramaan ID via SMS on your registered mobile number.

2. Via Common Service Centres (CSCs)

Visit your nearest Common Service Centre (Jan Seva Kendra). The operator will assist you in submitting your DLC using the biometric device available at the centre. This is ideal for those who are not tech-savvy or do not own a smartphone.

3. At Your Bank Branch or Post Office

Most banks and post offices that disburse pensions have biometric devices installed. You can visit your branch and request staff to help you submit the life certificate through the Jeevan Pramaan system.

4. Door-Step Service

For elderly or differently-abled pensioners who cannot travel, several banks and government initiatives offer a doorstep Jeevan Pramaan service. Contact your bank to enquire about this facility.

5. Postman Service (India Post Payments Bank)

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) provides a service where a postman visits your home and submits the life certificate using a biometric-enabled device. A nominal fee may apply.

What You Need Before You Begin

  • Valid Aadhaar number (linked to your mobile number)
  • Your Pension Payment Order (PPO) number
  • Name of the pension disbursing bank/authority
  • Bank account number linked to pension disbursement
  • Registered mobile number

How to Check Your Jeevan Pramaan Status

After submission, you can verify your DLC status online at jeevanpramaan.gov.in by entering your Aadhaar number or the Pramaan ID received via SMS. You can also download a copy of the certificate from the same portal.

Key Deadlines

The annual window for Jeevan Pramaan submission is typically October to November each year, though many disbursing authorities accept it throughout the year. Central government pensioners are usually required to submit by 30th November. Check with your specific pension authority for exact deadlines.
